Dr. Ellinwood has designed and conducted education studies addressing:
- clinical and interprofessional education
- metacognitive and reflective engagement in teaching and learning
- clinical problem-solving
- the development of clinical reasoning and professional identity
- formative feedback
- development of communication skills for teaching in clinical settings, e.g., learning how to convey “bad news” to patients and families
- use of education technology to promote active and reflective engagement in learning.
Dr. Ellinwood's dissertation focused on the use of a web-based education tool to facilitate reflection and metacognitive engagement in self-regulated learning.
